Science with a Mission
On April 30th, 2006 we hosted Dr. Alynne MacLean who told us about her unique and exciting work. She applies science in a powerful way to reduce suffering in the Third World. Alynne has developed simple diagnostic tests that are highly suitable to the "low tech" conditions of much of the world.
Frequently medicine is available in under-developed areas because it has been donated by drug companies. However these drugs are often useless because one does not know what illness needs to be treated. These inexpensive tests provide this information. She currently has tests for: Malaria, Typhoid, HIV 1/2, Dengue IgG/IgM, Hepatitis B and C, H.pylori, Tuberculosis, Syphilis, Chlamydia, and Gonorrhea.
You can learn more about her work at the Science with a Mission website.
CONGO
We were visited by Pastor Fohle Lygundi in the Spring of 2005. He shared with us his vision for his ministry in the Congo. We learned that much of the factional fighting in the Congo is by Christians belonging to different denominations. Part of his goal is to address this irony of Christians killing Christians.
We have been able to provide some equipment that will assist him in pursuing his ministry.
